To Corfe CastleThe main approaches are through Wareham via the A351 or across the Sandbanks Ferry from Poole or Bournemouth via Swanage. Ferries generally run three times an hour each way. Ferry Information can be obtained from the Bournemouth Swanage Motor Road & Ferry Co, on 01929.450203.

Train and Bus

There is a good direct train service from London Waterloo to Wareham with onward bus connections to Corfe Castle. Trains usually leave Waterloo at 05 and 35 past the hour (hourly on Sundays) and the fastest train is 2 hours 10 minutes. The train connects with other services at Clapham Junction, Woking, Basingstoke, Winchester, Southampton and Brokenhurst. The bus to Corfe Castle is the no 40 and leaves Wareham Station at 04 past the hour linking with the 35 minutes past the hour trains from London. Bikes can be hired at Wareham Station from Cycleworks.

Buses in Purbeck

The main bus through Corfe Castle is the hourly no 40 from Poole to Swanage using the new Purbeck Breezer buses and offering great views. A twice daily service, the no 44 connects Corfe Castle with Worth Matravers and Harmans Cross.

Holiday makers treasure two special bus journeys

The no 50 Purbeck Breezer circular route from Bournemouth to Swanage, runs via the Sandbanks Chain Ferry and Studland, then Swanage to Poole via Corfe Castle on the no 40 and then there’s a choice of frequent buses from Poole to Bournemouth. Those staying in Corfe can start on the no 40 and travel either direction.

The Jurassic Coast Explorer X53 runs every two hours from Poole to Exeter via Wareham and Weymouth and offers stupendous views especially from Weymouth to Bridport.

The main A351 Wareham-Swanage road runs through the village. Sorry, no petrol stations in Corfe Castle ! Your nearest fill-up points are:-

  • Purbeck Motors, in the village of Stoborough near Wareham, just off the A351. Tel 01929.552151
  • Moonfleet Cars Ltd, in the village of Harmans Cross midway between Corfe Castle and Swanage. Tel 01929 480215.
  • St Michaels Garage, on the Swanage side of Harmans Cross.

Parking

Street Parking in the village is limited; there is a ‘Pay and Display’ car park in West Street and there is the Castle View Car & Coach Park (National Trust) at the foot of the Castle, or you can use the Park & Ride at Norden, which is about half a mile from the village where you can catch the steam train to the village.

The Park & Ride at Norden is a unique example of a rural transport system that really works. Developed by Purbeck District Council in conjunction with Swanage Railway, there is space for over 350 cars, coach parking, an information centre, toilets and children’s play area. This award-winning facility currently charges £3 for all day parking – the least expensive of all the Corfe Castle car parks.
