Swanage 35 Gala – Swanage Railway
“Swanage 35” Gala 12th/13th July 2014
We are celebrating 35 years of heritage trains on the Swanage Branch with a frequent train service both days.
This is the FIRST chance to travel on our service trains behind A1 Steam Loco Trust’s engine No. 60163 ‘Tornado’ (based on the Peppercorn designed class A1 Pacific steam locomotive) which was built from scratch, like the Swanage Railway, thanks to an ambitious 18-year project.
Travel behind a range of steam and diesel locomotives in our home fleet, together with a diesel multiple unit to/from Motala, celebrating regular steam and diesel train services we offer throughout the year. This includes our popular evening diesel services allowing residents and visitors a night out in Purbeck without the car.
There are exclusive opportunities during the Gala to ride on one of our Diesel Multiple Units beyond Norden (the current limit of regular passenger trains). A rare chance for a grandstand view of the railway part way towards Wareham. Discover more about Project Wareham that is ongoing as we continue restoration and improvement works to permit regular trains to Wareham again.
Feel like taking the controls of ‘Tornado’ along the challenging gradients of our Railway? There are exclusive driver experience opportunities on just a few days in July. Don’t delay as this rare opportunity is sure to be popular. Call 01929 425800.
Dine in style on the ‘The Twilight Tornado’ dining train on Saturday 19th July – planned to be hauled by ‘Tornado’ but subject to availability of course. The train offers excellent value for money as our standard, award-winning, ‘Wessex Belle’ fares will apply. Call 01929 425800.
