Over the weekend a number of events happened to celebrate Purbeck at War. The highlight for many was seeing the Mark 11c Hurricane No. PZ865 fly over Corfe Castle and then follow the railway line to Swanage. Passengers on a Swanage Railway steam train south of Corfe Castle were in for a treat on Saturday 27th June when a Second World War Royal Air Force Hurricane fighter made a flypast as part of the Purbeck at War Weekend. DISTRICT chiefs have announced free parking for shoppers across Purbeck during the Christmas run-up. The move, calculated to help boost trade in Swanage, Wareham and Corfe Castle, has been agreed with local chambers of commerce. Purbeck District Council economy spokesman Cllr Peter Webb said: “With a great range of goods for sale in Purbeck, having free parking gives residents that extra incentive to shop locally this year.” Free parking will be available at council-run car parks in Wareham on December 18, 19, 20 and 21.
